Anguish🥲, Despair😫, Insecure🫡, Cheated🤡. Life of an 2024 NEET aspirant😭
From feeling proud and esteemed about taking the NEET exam in 2024 & becoming a doctor in the future to feeling cheated of our hard work, in despair, and insecurity about what will happen to our future based on the decision by the Supreme Court on 8th July.
What mistake did the students make to deserve this much heartbreak, this education system and the extreme level of corruption have made a joke out of the lives of hundreds of thousands of NEET aspirants. Their only dream was to get an MBBS admission into a government medical college through merit. It has been 2 months since the completion of the exam and still, we are all waiting for the announcement for the start of counselling.
As a 2024 NEET aspirant what have we been put through,
NEET 2024 Timeline
May 5th
Exam Day
May 6th
There are rumors of paper leaks in Northern India like in Bihar, Gujarat, and Jharkhand which were identified through the telegram videos that went viral on the internet
Exam centers raised two more issues
In a national competitive exam, there is only one universal question paper for everyone and a reserve paper for any unavoidable errors that occur before the exam.
In Tamilnadu, specifically in 2 centers in Thuttukudi, they received the reserve paper instead of the universal question paper for everyone else in 571 exam centers.
In 6 exam centers in the northern states, there was a difference and mismatch in the language. Those students who opted for English as the medium of the paper got Hindi instead and vice versa. Hence, 1563 students belonging to these 6 exam centers faced a problem of lack of time when NTA sorted out this inconvenience during the 3h 20 mins exam time itself.
May 17th
1563 students went to the Supreme Court to plead for justice for the loss of time during the exam. Supreme Court gave a verdict and grace marks were awarded to the affected 1563 students based on the schematics of a computer-based exam called CLAT exam.
June 4th Morning
The final answer key for NEET 2024 was provided. General election results were released. NTA was expected to release the Score Card on 14th June.
June 5th Evening 5 pm
Suddenly, the NEET 2024 Score Card was released and made public. A shock to everyone
Results made into the headlines of the news
718 and 719! marks that were impossible to obtain
67 720/720 perfect scores
Rank inflation of almost 8 to 9 times
NTA claimed that they have given grace marks based on the computer-based exam(CLAT) and that the Supreme Court gave a method to compensate the marks ( but it was clearly stated that such means cannot used for medical and engineering courses exams) but it was still used nevertheless.
The other issue was that NTA claiming to be a “transparent organisation” did not disclose how many marks were given to how many students
June 14th
Supreme Court issues Re-NEET for 1563 students who were provided with the grace marks
July 1st
Re-results and new Score Card for all 2024 aspirants. With 1563 students issued for re-neet, and 110 students disqualified for malpractice, everyone expected that this was going to bring a big change and all the hopes came crashing down when all these changes seemed to prove no yield as most of the students only saw a difference of 10-100 ranks depending on their mark range.
A solver gang in Bihar (led by Sanjeev Kumar sent the paper to Baldev Kumar( nicknamed Chintu), these two and their solver gang have already been involved in multiple paper leaks for the past 10-12 years
Baldev Kumar received the solved PDF of the NEET Question Paper to his mobile on May 5th morning
Baldev Kumar took multiple copies in his wifi printer
Kept it in a safe house( Learn boys hostel & Hostel)
Candidates were taken to a particular place (2km away) from the drop-off point where they were made to memorize answers & made them write the exam
According to the NEET rank predictor by Allen & Aakash, using last year's matrix, 682 was expected to be AIR 1100-1300 but in reality this year the rank jumped to 7536.
Paper Leak Issue
What actually happened?
This gang got the paper from the courier company on 3rd May itself. Shreds of evidence from the safehouse such as half-burnt paper showed that the serial code matched with a school in Jharkhand.
Through CBI & local police investigations, for now, 18 people have been arrested.
Bijender Gupta & Sanjeev Mukhiya in total targetted 700 kids and aimed to loot 200-300 crores in total by demanding 40 to 50 lakhs per student
Comments of Education Minister
He mentioned that out of 70 centers in Patna, 13 centers have been involved in this malpractice and those involved have been disqualified.
Malpractice is localized ( Re-NEET is not required)
But the case is still in CBI's hands the Supreme Court has not yet ruled out the possibility of re-NEET.
The only good news
To combat the inflating of ranks in NEET 2024, the government approved 5 new medical colleges (private) in Tamil Nadu
Thashashila -Villupuram
Kalasalingam- Krishnakoil
Annaii- Kancheepuram
JR- Chennai
KMMC- Kanyakumari
And 113 more new medical colleges across India which guarantees 11000 more medical seats for NEET aspirants
