The Golden Tip
Time management
You can only plan your run for a marathon only if you know where are the start and the endpoint. Similarly, you need to know or set a target for when you want to start preparing for the syllabus and by what time you want to finish the entire syllabus. I joined the 11th syllabus during June 2022 and according to the school management they had planned to complete the NEET as a whole syllabus for NEET 2024 by the 1st week of September 2023. So I had 16 months to prepare the content for NEET. Eventually, I was left with 8 months from the 1st week of September 2023 to the end of April 2024.
So, In short, that is 16 months of studying and 8 months of revision(including preparation for 12th Board exams).
I felt that this 16+8 scheme was comfortable because apart from studying, being able to recall and revise all the chapters that we have studied so far also plays a crucial role. So given 8 months to revise all the chapters that we might have forgotten since learning them at the start of the 11th, it is a blessing.
Goal Setting
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. You need to know the importance of goal setting. You need to know that it is the short-term goals and long-term goals that keep you on track. You need to fix your short-term goals, long-term goals, and weekly and monthly goals.
Short-term vs long-term goals
Short-term goals are goals that need to be achieved in 1- 2 weeks. My school management had weekly targets
For example,
For chemistry, if we are starting the atomic structure topic on Monday, then the management will set a target to complete till Schrodinger’s wave equation by Fridays and weekend exams on Sundays will be set based on the portion completed in that week.
For zoology, if we are starting Animal Kingdom on Monday, then the management will set a target to complete until chordates on Friday, and weekend exams on Sunday will be set based on the portion completed in that week.
These are the small weekly goals that we need to maintain and the Velammal management has done a great job in spacing out the syllabus curriculum so that it is a fast but manageable pace for the students to adapt to. So it is important to maintain these goals so that we are well aware of our time.
Long-term goals
Long-term goals are goals that need to be achieved in the long run of 2 or 3 months.
You need to set manageable targets like for example finishing 3 to 4 topics in 2 months based on which topics are more complex and which are easier to manage.
For example,
In botany, you need to plan to finish the easier topics like plant kingdom, morphology, and anatomy of flowering plants in 1 to 1.5 months so that more time can be allocated for the tougher conceptual topics like photosynthesis, respiration, plant growth, and development.
